About New Zealand
New Zealand is a relatively small country with a population of 4.4 million people located in the south west of the Pacific Ocean. This unique country contains a diverse range of landscapes and climatic conditions extending throughout two major islands, the North Island and the South Island, and a third smaller island, Stewart Island.
New Zealand is a country with pastoral grace, green pastures with millions of sheep and herds of cattle; the majestic mountains as well as rivers that feed from glaciers and wind through deep forests; golden, white and black-sanded beaches; deserts and uplands covered by tussock grass; beautiful, spectacular views. New Zealand's awesome landscapes, lush forests, amazing wildlife and pleasant climate make it a haven for many outdoor activities, and a great place to unwind. Agriculture is the principal economy of New Zealand.
New Zealand is home to many species of birds of which the Kiwi is the best known, and abounds in varieties of seabirds and migratory birds. New Zealand lies within the temperate zone with a climate that is generally mild and moist and seasonal differences are not great. Rainfall is moderate to abundant and spread throughout the year.
New Zealand has a unique and dynamic culture. The society is diverse, sophisticated and multicultural. New Zealand's indigenous Maori people have a unique and fascinating language and culture, which plays a major role in New Zealand life. It also has immigrants from Asia, Europe and many other countries contributing towards the technological and economic changes giving a new national identity.
The capital city is Wellington and Auckland is the largest city with 1/3 of the population.
